Good news! Korg is (finally!) shipping its latest addition to the Nu:Tekt DIY series – the NTS-3 Kaoss Pad Kit. This compact and customizable effects unit brings the iconic KAOSS touch interface to the world of build-it-yourself gear, offering musicians and sound designers a powerful new tool for creative expression.

KAOSS in Your Hands

The NTS-3 packs a serious punch in a portable package. At its core is the familiar XY touchpad that made the original Kaoss Pad famous, allowing for intuitive control over effects parameters. But Korg has taken things to the next level, enabling users to stack up to four effects simultaneously for complex sound sculpting.

With 35 built-in effects ranging from essential filters and compressors to lush reverbs and wild modulations, the NTS-3 provides a vast palette of sonic possibilities. The unit comes loaded with 100 preset performance programs, and users can save an additional 100 of their own custom creations.

Customization is Key

True to the Nu:Tekt philosophy, the NTS-3 is all about customization. Not only can users create and save their own effect combinations, but the open-source logueSDK allows for programming entirely new effects or integrating third-party creations (check out Sinevibes before anything else!). This opens up virtually limitless potential for expanding the unit’s capabilities over time.

Build Your Own KAOSS

As a DIY kit, the NTS-3 offers a fun and educational assembly experience. Korg promises a straightforward build process requiring no soldering, with an estimated assembly time of under 20 minutes. For those wanting to take customization even further, Korg is providing 3D data to facilitate physical modifications.

Power bank, anyone?

Connectivity and Performance

Despite its compact size (104 x 101 x 39 mm), the NTS-3 doesn’t skimp on connectivity. It features stereo line input and output, sync in/out for integration with other gear, and USB-C for power and future software updates. The clear OLED display ensures easy navigation of parameters and presets during performance.

The Nu:Tekt Ecosystem Grows

The NTS-3 joins Korg’s expanding lineup of Nu:Tekt DIY instruments, which includes the popular NTS-1 synthesizer and NTS-2 oscilloscope. This latest addition further cements Korg’s commitment to providing innovative, hands-on experiences for electronic musicians and tinkerers alike.

With an attractive price point and the promise of endless sonic exploration, the Korg NTS-3 Kaoss Pad Kit is poised to become a must-have for performers, producers, and anyone looking to add a unique flavor to their sound.
