At ANR we’re all for new learning platforms. That’s why, when some months ago we heard of Skoove, the new web-based interactive piano lessons service, we got pretty excited and we were eager to try it out (see our Skoove review for more details).
Using my MIDI controller keyboards, Skoove worked great. But there was no chance of using it with my acoustic piano. Until now, that is.
Thanks to a sophisticated sound algorithm co-developed with experts at the renowned Fraunhofer IDMT research institute, Skoove can now determine whether students hit the right notes simply by listening through your computer’s microphone. Personally, I hate cables, so having just a laptop and an acoustic piano makes Skoove even more enjoyable!
Wondering about latency? According to Florian Plenge, CEO of Skoove. “this efficient real-time analysis achieves a very low latency, making for a very fluid overall learning experience”. I’ll try it out and report back, stay tuned.
Skoove is also launching more courses, not only for beginners. There’s a new course for intermediate players and the first special interest course for music producers that features iconic dance tracks from Faithless, Kraftwerk, Fatboy Slim, and more.
