Puremagnetik Omiharp – Not Your Average Omnichord

March 13, 2024March 13, 2024

Puremagnetik has just released Omiharp – an electronic strumming instrument inspired by the quirky Suzuki Omnichord from the 1980s.

Key Features

Omiharp goes beyond just emulating the original Omnichord sound. It uses an advanced physically-modeled plucking engine that can create tones ranging from harps to acoustic guitars. The timbre can be sculpted with controls for the attack, picking style, dampening and resonance.

Strum Pattern Generator

One of the most interesting features is the built-in strum pattern generator. You can select from classic up/down patterns, alternating thumb/finger picking, mirrored patterns and even random strumming. There are also 7 popular scale options to choose from.

Spicing Up The Chords

For even more creative options, Omiharp includes multi-tap delay and tremolo effects. These allow you to create lush, atmospheric pads and rhythmic textures that would be impossible on the original hardware Omnichord.

Pricing and Availability

Omiharp is available now for $9/month or $89/year as part of Puremagnetik’s subscription service. Subscribers get access to Omiharp along with Puremagnetik’s entire collection of instruments and monthly new releases.

This affordable subscription model makes Omiharp accessible to bedroom producers and professionals alike. It’s an inexpensive way to add the flavor of a rare vintage instrument to your productions.

Worth Knowing

Suzuki recently announced the OM-108, a new hardware version of the Omnichord with expanded features, expected to retail for $750. This could be a great choice if you want the hands-on experience and don’t mind the higher price.

Final Thoughts

With Omiharp, Puremagnetik has created a unique software instrument that pays homage to the classic Omnichord while expanding its sonic potential. The combination of modeling synthesis, built-in strumming patterns, and effects allows it to cover an impressive range of plucked and strummed sounds. And the affordable subscription price makes it easy to add Omiharp’s creative textures to your music productions.
