Puremagnetik has just released a new sound device that is sure to excite musicians and producers alike: Gales, a Warped Cartridge Echo. This versatile tool combines vintage tape processing with sophisticated digital effects, offering a unique blend of old and new to create a wide range of sounds.
Gales is designed to provide precise control over comb-filtering and analog sounds through its microdelay matrix. It allows users to create simple, smooth chorusing, deep modulated spaces, and nostalgic wow-and-flutter effects.
Key features include:
- A comb filter with micro-delay
- A tape filter that simulates wow and flutter “aging”
- Five adjustable parameters for filtering, chorus, and delay characteristics
- A “Split” control for manipulating the left and right channels
- A “Noise” fader for adding tape character to the sound
Controls and Compatibility
Gales offers a variety of controls to manipulate the sound. The GALE control adjusts the amount of comb filtering, acting as a master control for the first five controls (DREDGE, OFFSET, STASIS & SPLIT). OFFSET adjusts the feedback matrix, DREDGE adjusts the depth of the filtering, and STASIS lets you adjust how much “drunk walk” randomness is added to OFFSET, creating naturally interpolated modulations. TAPE adds an analog cassette-style “age” to the audio after the comb filtering, and NOISE adds tape loop and mechanical noise. SPLIT separates the left and right channels by a few milliseconds, creating wide space and phase reflections. SHUFFLE gives slight variations to DREDGE, animating it around its current setting.
Gales is compatible with OSX 10.8 or Windows 10 x64, and it runs as M1/2 Native on Puremagnetik Plugins. It works with Audio Units or VST/VST3 compatible audio hosts.
Pricing and Availability
Gales is available for immediate download as part of Puremagnetik’s monthly or yearly membership. The monthly membership is priced at $9, while the yearly membership is $89. You can also check some of our previous favorite Puremagnetik plugins, such as Small Winters and Pastfabric.
