Music Tech Fest Berlin 2016 – More Artists Announced!
|
A few weeks ago we introduced the first artists announced for the giant creative laboratory of Music Tech Fest Berlin 2016. In the meantime, they added more names to the line-up and we’re happy to feature some of them here.
As already explained, we believe Music Tech Fest is a unique opportunity for creative and curious minds and deserves our support and your attention.
Music Tech Fest is not a conference and it’s not a festival of concerts. It’s not a trade fair and it’s not a tech summit. Nor is it even a hackathon, though they do have one of those… and a very unusual one at that. Music Tech Fest is the festival of music ideas, a big inspiring playground. Are you ready to play?
Matt Black
Matt Black is half of legendary DJ duo and multimedia pop group Coldcut, formed in 1987, and founders of Ninja Tune, the UK record label. He joins us with visualist Dario Jurelli at #MTFBerlin to perform a new audiovisual composition, ‘Ich Bin’.
Coldcut are known for innovations in DJing, remixing, mashup, VJing, apps and multimedia.
Matt’s stated ambition is to ‘create positive art, music and spiritual technology to blow the minds of the entire planet and catalyse the advancement of cooperative strategies’. He continues to gig, lecture, DJ, VJ, record, develop software and bridge the worlds of technology, club culture, art and activism.
At #MTFBerlin, Matt introduces his major new work on the main festival stage, with the full performance in a premiere in #MTFLates – an after hours private club in a secret chamber of the Funkhaus on Saturday 28th May, available to #MTFBerlin festival ticketholders only.
Grace Savage
Three-time British beatboxing champion, singer, songwriter, actor, looping artist extraordinaire and one of Elle magazine’s top 100 inspiring women in the world, Grace Savage is coming to #MTFBerlin at Funkhaus, 27-30 May.
Grace will be teaming up with music technology researcher, inventor and #MusicBricks developer Balandino di Donato to create a groundbreaking performance that uses gestural interfaces to sample, loop and process her voice live.
Grace has gigged regularly with The Vocal Orchestra, performed at The National Theatre and had a successful run of her one-woman show at Soho Theatre. She’s shared Main stages at Festivals with the likes of Rita Ora and Katy B and her solo music was crowned a favourite on the panel for BBC Introducing in Devon.
Her Debut EP is a beautifully crafted selection of dreamy, atmospheric pop which perfectly showcases Savage’s ethereal vocals alongside her beatboxing talent. Grace is coming to the giant creative laboratory of #MTFBerlin to explore new technologies that kick at the outer limits of the human voice.
Sarah Farina
Sarah Farina is one of Berlin’s most revered DJs – and we’re thrilled to announce that she’s joining us at #MTFBerlin for an incredibly special night of exclusive performance works and DJ sets after the main festival programme has finished for the day.
Sarah’s one of the first guest performers announced for #MTFLates – the private club night happening after-hours at Music Tech Fest on Saturday night in a hidden chamber of the Funkhaus. Expect seamlessly blended bass-heavy footwork and futuristic beats, with fearless forays through R&B and UK Funky. I
Sarah Farina is recognised and revered by the best of her bass music contemporaries, with connections to crews worldwide including Teklife, Hyperdub, Deep Medi, Buraka Som Sistema and Exit Records.
That’s NOT all, folks!
Make no mistake, what happens on the main stage is only a part of the exciting events of Music Tech Fest. In the next post, we’ll highlight some of these and we’ll have an interview with some of Music Tech Fest’s protagonists.
In the meantime, check out and download the full Music Tech Fest Berlin 2016 programme and make sure to get your tickets!
