There’s no shortage of plugins that can add energy and variations to your tracks, from our beloved Cableguys Shaperbox 3 (see also our Shaperbox review) and Output Movement to the recently updated Sugar Bytes Effectrix 2 – and many more in between. That said, I’m a big fan of Arturia’s FX Collection, and I find this new Efx MOTIONS a sort of natural consequence of the company’s previous work.
So what does this plugin bring to the table? Quoting Arturia, “It breathes life into stagnant tracks with a suite of features, including moving filters, distortion, beat repeating, and more.”Similarly to some of its competitors, Efx MOTIONS instills life into the sound by creating variations based on shapes. You can easily draw curves and envelopes to animate any sound, create automations and polyrythmic motion to change the feel of your music, and move from stutter to riser to mix widener in a few clicks – and yes, there are lots of helpful presets as well!
A Multi-Fx Toolbox For The Modern Producer
Efx MOTIONS is what I would call a multi-fx toolbox for the modern producer. It probably doesn’t do anything that you wouldn’t be able to do with your DAW plugins, but it does it in a very smart and convenient way, saving you hours of clicking and editing – not to mention the fact that it can help you overcome the dreaded creator’s block.
At the center of Efx MOTIONS are its 5 main audio modules, each providing a different type of sound alteration: Filter, Noise, Drive, Volume and Pan. These modules obviously make use of Arturia’s extensive work on synths and effects, so expect to find their modeled vintage synth filters, juicy distortions and so on. But it doesn’t end here.Efx MOTIONS’ Beat Repeat and FX module gives you 5 more ways to get creative with the movement of your tracks, plus 2 FX as insert or send for a sprinkle of sonic coloration. You can stack and weave multiple FX together, trigger beat repeats, and modulate parameters all at once. Efx MOTIONS is somewhere between a full FX chain and an instrument in itself.
