Imaginando VS 2: Major Update For the Popular Visual Synth

Fab, September 17, 2025September 17, 2025

I’ve spent time working with Imaginando’s VS Visual Synthesizer over the years, and VS 2 represents the kind of update I’ve always wanted: thoughtful improvements to the workflow and a toolkit tailored for real-world live and studio situations.

Genuine Workflow Improvements

Opening up VS 2 for the first time, what struck me was the new streamlined interface. The consolidated Layer Properties and improved visual organization meant setting up complex multi-layer visuals felt faster and more controlled. The layout now feels familiar if you’re used to DAWs or media editors—no more getting lost in submenus.

Key New Features

VS 2 brings several practical tools that matter when working under pressure:

  • Preset Playlist: Now you can schedule visual changes or trigger them with MIDI or mouse—perfect for tightly-timed sets and club shows.
  • Audio Visualizers & Oscilloscope: Shaders directly respond to live audio and spectrum data, opening up genuinely new looks and musical integrations.
  • Live Input Integration: Syphon, Spout, and camera feeds connect easily, so slotting VS 2 into an AV setup is never a pain.
  • Text Material: Custom text elements can be animated and designed as easily as any shader.
  • Render Output Material: Feedback and fractal effects are available within the workspace, just by routing layers.
  • Expanded MIDI Mapping: More flexible range selection, 14-bit controller support, and grouped layer control make complex MIDI setups straightforward.
  • Media Manager: Asset tracking and relinking is now quick, which saves time in production and touring.
  • 4K Output: Export visuals for installations, streaming, and promotion in any format.

Expansion Packs Still Work

Any existing expansion packs and user presets from the first VS are still compatible. That includes “Textural Memories”, a collection that gives 31 unique materials and 84 ready-to-use presets, still a solid choice for artists wanting new, organic reactive visuals. If you invested in the VS ecosystem, nothing is left behind.

Check the official VS Visual Synthesizer product page for screenshots of the new interface, demo videos, and up-to-date feature details.
