Mayer EMI Unveils Vibes, a Powerful Portable Synthesizer with XVA Sound Engine

Fab, May 10, 2024May 10, 2024

Mayer EMI, the Austrian synthesizer company founded by Horst Mayer, has just announced the release of Vibes, a compact yet feature-packed digital synthesizer. At the heart of the Vibes is the Extended Virtual Analog (XVA) sound engine from Mayer’s flagship MD900 synthesizer, now in a portable form factor.

From Passion Project to Innovative Company

The journey to the Vibes began decades ago when Horst Mayer built his first analog synthesizer at age 17 as a hobby and passion. His professional career took him into industrial electronics and control technology for over 35 years, where he developed extensive know-how. In 2012, encouraged by his two sons, he started transforming his industrial expertise into developing music electronics in his spare time.

In 2020, Mayer officially founded his own company, Mayer EMI, with support from knowledgeable friends, freelancers and synthesizer enthusiasts. The MD900 flagship synthesizer was their first major product, showcasing Mayer’s vision of combining advanced technology with attention to detail to inspire musicians.

Immersive Stereo Sound in a Compact Package

The Vibes continues this vision in a more compact and affordable format. It is a 24-voice polyphonic, true stereophonic digital synthesizer. It combines true stereo digital oscillators with the harmonic richness of wavetable synthesis to create an immersive sound experience, from lush unison pads to rumbling bass lines and shimmery leads.

Despite its compact size, the Vibes is a professional-grade instrument. It combines state-of-the-art platform design, craftsmanship, sound quality and rich connectivity. All important parameters can be easily accessed via the macro controls and responsive touchscreen.

New AIS Platform and Enhanced Creative Features

The Vibes is built on Mayer EMI’s new AIS (All Integrated Synthesizer) platform, developed in response to global component shortages. This modular core technology allows for more powerful instruments in the future, while maintaining compatibility with the MD900.

The Vibes also comes with several new software features to enhance creativity, including a Resonator Oscillator, an improved Clip Launcher for live performance, and a fully-fledged digital audio mixer with over 19 stereo channels and real-time FX processing.

Vision for All Integrated Synthesizers

The Vibes marks an important milestone for Mayer EMI’s vision of “All Integrated Synthesizers”. Rather than just being integrated into setups, Mayer instruments aim to be the central hub that integrates all peripherals, from controllers to audio devices, whether on stage, in the studio or at home.

The Mayer EMI Vibes is available for preorder now at an MSRP of €2299. With its combination of a powerful engine, compact form factor, and the innovative vision of founder Horst Mayer, the Vibes looks set to make waves in the synth world.
