Black Wavetable VCO from Erica Synths – Versatile And Compact!

At SuperBooth, we had a nice chat with the Erica Synths crew and checked out some of their upcoming products. One of these has just been announced yesterday and I’m sure will make many of you modular heads very happy (by the way, I love those knobs!).

The Black Wavetable VCO is one of the most compact (12 HP) wavetable VCO around! This fat sounding module features 16+ banks of selected waves: classical synths, FM synths, Erica modular, vowels and others.

The VCO has separate -1 and -2 octaves sub oscillator output, built-in VCA and wave morphing feature for more pleasant sound. Additional ROM chips (sold separately) with extra wavetables are available to adapt the module to your style of making music.

A bit of history
Wavetable synthesis is a technique invented by Wolfgang Palm of PPG in the late seventies. It is based on periodic reproduction of an arbitrary, single-cycle waveform. In wavetable synthesis, some method is employed to vary or modulate the selected waveform in the wavetable. The position in the wavetable selects the single cycle waveform. Check out this excellent SOS article if you would like to read more about wavetable synthesis.
